Department of CIVIL Engineering
Civil Engineering is considered to be the most versatile branch among all the engineering branches. It is the branch with a lot of diversity from geotechnical sciences to structural engineering, environmental to hydraulics, transportation to hydrology; Civil Engineering can be considered as a single largest branch among all the engineering branches, extending across many technical specializations.
The Department of Civil Engineering since its formation is committed to research and development in civil engineering. The vision of the department is to give an exposure to budding civil technocrats to various challenges in the profession. The Department also encourages its students to engage in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, essential for development, nurturing of team spirit, and developing organizational skills. The department encourages faculty to disseminate the practical knowledge to student community by involving them in various consultancy projects. Currently department offers under graduate program with an intake of 60 students.
Globalization and India's policy for greater investment in infrastructure have lead to a remarkable increase in investments for projects supporting core infrastructure such as highways, transport corridors, airports, harbors and energy. This has resulted in the revitalization of careers for qualified civil engineers in both public and private sector. Further, the growth in the Indian economy has also resulted in considerable private investment in upgrading existing infrastructure and development of new infrastructure facilities which leads to huge demand for eligible young civil engineers not only within nation but also in abroad.
Civil Engineers will be deployed in the designing, development and maintenance of these large infrastructure projects. In addition, with consultancy services in this domain also picking up, experienced civil engineers will find lucrative opportunities in consulting across growing business vertical. Civil Engineers can have a fulfilling career in Real Estate, Consulting, and Infrastructure companies apart from the Indian Engineering Services.
Civil engineers plan, design and supervise construction of facilities essential to modern life. These facilities vary widely in nature, size and scope including space satellites and launching facilities, offshore drilling structures, bridges, buildings, highways and other transport systems, tunnels, airport, dams,harbors and other infrastructure. Civil Engineers are required for the design, development and maintenance of such projects and will therefore exhibit superior administrative and human resource management skills apart from their core technical capabilities as engineers
